About

Hi there. I'm Ashley Clark, operations and digital product manager, front end web developer and editor. My professional background spans several industries and disciplines, but in every job I make it a point to learn new skills and technology to take with me to my next position.

I am passionate about literacy through building up a love of reading and literature in people from a young age. I have been an English language teacher both professionally and as a volunteer for the last 11 years and nothing makes me happier than seeing my students enjoy a book to which I’ve introduced them. Children’s picture books are one of my favourite things as they are not only the gateway through which many children first learn a love of reading, but by combining the visual with the written, they also can teach older children and adults so much about empathy and beauty. [See what I’ve been reading]

I love to bake, and a perfect Saturday includes trying to make something new and delicious whether it’s home-made jaffa cakes, cannoli, or croquembouche. I combined my love of baking and my love of books in a dessert/book pairing blog which I plan to resurrect at some point: http://remedyofbooks.blogspot.co.uk/

Additionally, work around fair treatment of refugees and immigrants, as well as work combating hunger and living more sustainably are all things that are very important to me and are causes for which I spend my time volunteering.

Work Background

I'm currently working in the mobility sector as a digital product manager, building products that  provide smart transportation services for commuting, school runs and events.
Previously, as co-founder and COO of children’s mobility startup, GoKid, I was part of scaling the company up from a couple people to a full-time team of 8 as well as several part-time contractors. I managed the product at GoKid (amongst other jobs, #startuplife) leading the launch of a B2C app on three platforms and the launch of a B2B product used by schools in 10 states and scaling the app usage to over half a million carpools (eliminating 900,000 car trips and saving 3,250 tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere). We were the first family-focused carpool app to introduce live tracking and were chosen as Apple’s App of the Day.

Prior to my work at GoKid, I was more editorial and web development focused. I worked with private clients as an editor and proofreader specialising in the Chicago Manual of Style. I also was Managing Editor at New York International, an online resource for international entrepreneurs in NYC. At New York International I managed the writing, editing, and publishing of digital articles and print publications; I also used my organisational skills to plan and coordinate programs and conferences.
